The Reception

Green Weddings

green_wedding_montage Even though all shades of green are still in vogue as wedding colours Green Weddings or Eco Weddings are another ball game all together.

Eco Wedding mean a little more planning to take into account carbon emissions, your carbon footprint of yourself and your guests as well as the actual materials, supplies you will be using at the wedding.

Some tips include:

Reduce the amount of travelling by you and your guests by having the ceremony and reception at the same place

Rent or purchase a vintage wedding dress or tuxedo

If you are wanting a specially design gown think about using organic silk where no bleaching has taken place

For invitations, menu's etc use recycled paper

For favours a lovely idea is to provide a seedling plant/tree for your guests.    Each tree

Another idea is to provide each  guest with a 11-watt compact fluorescent bulb.  By replacing a 50-watt incandescent bulb with their wedding favor will save 685 pounds of carbon dioxide.

Guest Games

Creating a Canvas

Guests often are asked to join together to create something for the couple's new life. In many cases, this is a piece of art. A large piece of canvas will be presented at the wedding reception. Guests will be asked to paint or decorate one small square of the canvas. As each guest contributes to the piece, the canvas begins to fill up with unique and creative paintings. Once every square has been filled, the canvas is complete. The work of art is given to the couple to hang in their new home together.

Talent Show

Another idea involves asking guests to entertain each other with their hidden talents. Whether guests choose to play a musical instrument, sing, dance or tell jokes, this interactive "talent show" is sure to keep guests busy. The bride and groom will judge the acts and award a prize for their favorite performance. Or, instead of giving a prize, the talent show winner must do something for the bride and groom, such as cook them dinner or send flowers on their first anniversary.

Kidnapping the Bride

A popular German wedding tradition involves "kidnapping the bride." During the wedding reception, the groom's friends will kidnap the bride and take her away from the reception. To do this successfully, the bride's friends typically distract the groom during this time. Once the groom realizes his bride is missing, he must also leave the reception to find her. Traditionally, the bride will be taken to a local pub. The groom simply has to travel through the town, searching through various locations to find her. Once the groom finds the bride, he must pay the tab for his bride and friends.

Fete

Provide your guests with either a photo booth or a drop cloth with cut outs with loads of props e.g. fake moustaches, wigs, hats etc that brings out the clown and child in them.  Don’t forget to ensure that these precious moments are memorialized forever in a photo.

Tips on being the perfect guest

Emily Post Tips on being the perfect guest

1. RSVP. Immediately.

RSVP is French for “please respond” (répondez s’il vous plaît). Your most important obligation as a guest is to respond to the invitation immediately, especially if you are unable to attend. At the very least, it allows your host and hostess enough time to give an accurate count to the caterer. There is usually a card to return with your reply. If not, you may write a formal reply or a note indicating your intention.
